VISITS: No 1: The Eco Shop, Cardigan.

Now and again the editorial team will visit 'Eco' projects around the country. This was our first (and very short, as we were on the way somewhere else) visit in September 2013.

From their website:

Aftr running successfully for 2 years, Cardigan Eco shop moved to its new premises in the Old Farmer's Co-op at Pwllhai in the centre of Cardigan. The shop was officially opened on Thursday 17th May by Shan Williams, Chair of 4CG, the community social enterprise group that has bought and re-opened the site. The shop has been set up as an information resource for sustainability in the Cardigan Area, and stocks a range of local craft items, recycled goods, up-cycled clothes, books and new and renovated tools. The shop provides a re-handling service for old and cherished implements. All profits are used to buy trees for the Local Community Forest Garden.

Donations of goods are welcome, especially if they relate to green issues, such as books, household items, garden implements and tools in general.

The shop is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am-5pm, closed Sundays, staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers. Anyone interested in joining the staff should contact Alpay Torgut. Feedback from visitors to the shop has been positive. Local people find it useful to pop in and find out what is happening in and around Cardigan and tourists comment on what a great resource it is.

As well as an eco store, the shop is a place where people can get help and advice to live more sustainably and of the local services on offer in this area.
